God is Good

Sometimes you just have to stop in your tracks and thank God for how good He is.  Not because He’s recently done something for you and not because everything is going your way… but just because of Who He is.

I’ve been doing a lot of thanking lately.  Going through the course of a day I suddenly realize that the Creator God of the universe loves me, pays attention to what I think and do, and is always with me no matter where I go.  Not only is He the Creator of the universe and beyond anything imaginable, but He is infinite, omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, and doles out more heaping helpings of love than we can even handle.  He gave His Son, His only Son mind you, to save us from the pit of sin and despair…  All this after we willingly chose to walk away from Him…  He didn’t have to do it you know, He could have wiped the slate clean and started all over again, after-all, He’s God!  But He didn’t, because He loves us, and because He is good.  That’s goodness that you just can’t explain.  That’s love we can’t begin to understand.

Do you ever have those moments when you’re simply overcome by the reality of how incredibly good God is?  It’s like that feeling when you open a window at the very start of spring, and fresh air rushes in and consumes every inch of your face.  It’s as if every fiber of your being is filled with the sweet aroma of morning and all you can do is breathe.  That’s what realizing God’s goodness is like, but multiplied times ten.  Have you ever been walking along and burst out laughing, and then want to cry and fall on your face before God because it dawns on you exactly how crazy and beautiful your story really is? I mean seriously! Think about your life right now….

Think about how you were born, how you grew up…

Think about how you first heard of Jesus…

Think about when you accepted Christ…

Think about how glorious that moment of Salvation was…

Think about how you’ve grown in Christ…

Think about all those moments you failed, and how God came through for you every time…

Think about all the lessons you’ve learned in life…

Think about the likelihood of your messing up again, and God still coming through every time…

Think about how you had to learn some of those lessons multiple times…

Think about how God helps you in that special way only He knows how…

Think about the fact that God knows your future…

Think about how pointless worry is, since God knows that future…

Think about how you’ve shared God with others…

Think about how often you’ve thanked Him for His love…

Think about how patient He is to wait for us to realize some things…

Think about the joy He must have when we finally realize it…

Think about all those times you’ve complained to Him about something…

Think about how each time, He didn’t try to defend Himself, but asked you to be patient…

Think about how powerful, glorious, magnificent, and huge He is…

Think about how perfect, holy, beautiful, and pure He is…

Think about how creative, brilliant, masterful, and wonderful He is…

Think about how good, loving, righteous, and unchanging He is…

Now think about how… He knows your name.  He made you in your mother’s womb.  He loves you.
