A Brand New Year

2011 has been a very interesting year... filled with great blessings, and trials. I've been blessed beyond anything I deserve, and I wouldn't trade the hard times for anything -- I've learned too much from them (granted, probably not as much as I could have).  I've also seen numerous ways in which I need to grow and trust in God.

Lessons Learned Outside the Classroom

Thank God for seasons of rest following seasons of learning. Even though this fall break is full of homework and studies, not having to be anywhere for two extra days has given me time to relax and refocus. I’ve also noticed that God tends to bring in trials right after learning a valued lesson, so that you’ll be sure and focus on what you’ve just learned, and not forget it as a passing whim. There are a few things happening that are helping me do just that right now.

So the thing is, I don't really even have to time to write this... but I felt like I needed to.

It's that time of year again! When students return to classes and the long, dog-days of summer wind down. So I'll take this opportunity to post one more addition before my brain is 'loaded-to-bursting' with all that is school.

Why Be A Missionary?

The following was a question posed by my end of summer assessment for my work with Georgia Summer Missions:  What would you tell a student thinking about ministering through Georgia Summer Missions? The following is part of my answers plus some thoughts on why we should be on mission.

Wow.

This summer has been amazing.  God has shown up in so many ways, and has moved in so many lives.  Miracles have happened, doors and hearts have been opened, and it's not stopping...

Vision and Devotion

Sometimes we are more devoted to ourselves and our vision than we are to God and His vision.  We are afraid to follow His plan if it conflicts with our personal choices and desires.  I think sometimes, we are afraid to even listen to what God is telling us because we fear we will have to change some aspect of our lives that we don't want to touch....

Peace, Be Still

Resting.  Abiding.  Relaxing. Waiting.

You Are Loved

Everyone is looking for that connection. That special someone who will never leave them or forsake them. That one someone or something that tells them they're loved. Wanted. Looked after. Cared for...

Going Deeper - 1 John 1:1

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I'm in the process of meditating on and memorizing the book of 1 John this summer.  Thankfully, my mentor is not only keeping me accountable, but is teaching me and is revealing some of the more subtle aspects of this book.

LOLCat Bible?

So we've seen a multitude of Bible translations appear on the horizon in the last few years.  Everything from The Message Paraphrase to Hawaiian Pidgin (Da Jesus Book).  But this latest "translation" is alarming.
